Air-Fryer Christmas Market Bratwurst Rolls preparation stage

You’ll Need

4 bratwurst sausages
4 crusty bread rolls
1 large onion, sliced
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp wholegrain mustard
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp black pepper

Optional But Dangerous
Sauerkraut
Melted cheese
Cranberry mustard

Method

Preheat your air fryer to 200°C.

Place the sliced onion into a heatproof dish with the butter.

Air fry at 190°C for 6–8 minutes until softened and lightly caramelised.

Meanwhile place the bratwurst sausages into the air fryer basket.

Air fry at 200°C for 10–12 minutes, turning halfway through, until deeply golden and beautifully blistered.

Warm the bread rolls during the final 2 minutes.

Mix the wholegrain and Dijon mustard together.

Slice the rolls open.

Spread with the mustard mixture.

Load generously with caramelised onions and bratwurst.

Add sauerkraut or cheese if using.

Return to the air fryer for 1–2 minutes if adding cheese.

Serve immediately while hot and gloriously messy.

Lad Tip: The best Christmas market sausages always drip slightly onto your gloves. If you need a napkin before you've reached the halfway point, you're probably doing Christmas market food correctly.
