Air-Fryer Maple Walnut Danish Plaits

Easy air-fryer maple walnut danish plaits with measured UK ingredients, practical timings and full Sweet Munch flavour.

Flaky pastry braided around maple, cinnamon and toasted walnut filling. It looks technical because the pastry has cuts in it; that is the entire trick.

You’ll Need

1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry
30g softened butter
80g walnuts, finely chopped
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
3 tbsp maple syrup
1 egg, beaten
35g light brown sugar
To Finish
2 tbsp icing sugar mixed with maple syrup
Extra chopped walnuts
Optional But Dangerous
Vanilla ice cream
Salted caramel sauce

Method

Preheat the air fryer to 180°C.

Mix the walnuts, maple syrup, brown sugar, butter and cinnamon.

Cut the pastry into six rectangles.

Spoon filling down each centre and cut diagonal strips along both sides.

Fold the strips alternately over the filling to make rough plaits and pinch the ends closed.

Brush with beaten egg and place on baking paper in the basket.

Air fry for 9-11 minutes until puffed and deeply golden.

Cool for 5 minutes, then drizzle with maple icing and walnuts.

Lad Tip: The plait does not need military precision. Once it puffs, even a slightly wonky braid looks like you knew what you were doing.
