Air Fryer Sweet Chilli BBQ Chicken Wings

Air Fryer Sweet Chilli BBQ Chicken Wings

These wings bring together the best of two worlds. Smoky American BBQ meets sweet chilli heat for a glaze that's sticky, glossy, and absolutely packed with flavour. Crispy skin, juicy meat, and just enough chilli to keep every bite exciting without overpowering the smoke. They're the sort of wings that vanish while everyone claims they're "saving room for the burgers."

Air Fryer Sweet Chilli BBQ Chicken Wings preparation stage

You’ll Need

1kg chicken wings
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp cracked black pepper

For The Sweet Chilli BBQ Glaze
3 tbsp smoky BBQ sauce
3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp chilli flakes

To Finish
2 spring onions, finely sliced
1 tsp sesame seeds

Optional But Dangerous

Ranch Dressing
Blue cheese dip
Lime wedges
Pickled jalapeños

Method

Preheat your air fryer to 200°C.

Pat the wings completely dry with kitchen paper.

Place them into a large bowl with the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and

cracked black pepper.

Mix thoroughly until every wing is evenly coated.

Arrange the wings in a single layer inside the air fryer basket.

Cook for 22–25 minutes, turning halfway through, until the skin is deeply golden and beautifully crisp.

Meanwhile, whisk together the BBQ sauce, sweet chilli sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider

vinegar, Dijon mustard, and chilli flakes.

Transfer the cooked wings into a large bowl and pour over the glaze.

Toss thoroughly until every wing is coated.

Return the wings to the air fryer for a final 3–4 minutes until the glaze bubbles, thickens, and caramelises

around the edges.

Finish with sliced spring onions and sesame seeds.

Serve immediately with ranch dressing, blue cheese dip, lime wedges, or pickled jalapeños if using.

Lad Tip: Always glaze the wings right at the end. Sweet chilli sauce contains plenty of sugar, and adding it too early will burn long before the chicken is ready. The final blast gives you that beautiful sticky finish every proper BBQ wing deserves.
