This is what happens when the Chinese takeaway and the chicken shop accidentally become best mates. Crispy salt and pepper chicken. Golden fries. Fried onions. Chillies. Peppers. Spring onions. Garlic. All piled into one ridiculous tray and finished with enough seasoning to wake up every taste bud you've got. Messy. Loud. Slightly excessive. Exactly how a proper fakeaway should be.
You’ll Need
500g chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized chunks
400g frozen thick-cut fries
80g cornflour
40g plain flour
2 eggs, beaten

1 small onion, sliced
3 spring onions, sliced
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 red chilli, sliced

1 tsp Chinese five spice
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp white pepper
½ tsp chilli flakes

Extra chillies
Method
Preheat your air fryer to 200°C.
Mix the cornflour, plain flour, half of the salt and pepper seasoning, and a pinch of salt together in a bowl.
Dip the chicken into the beaten egg, then coat thoroughly in the flour mixture.
Lightly spray the basket with oil.
Air fry the chicken at 200°C for 12–14 minutes, shaking halfway, until deeply golden and crisp.
Remove and keep warm.
Cook the fries at 200°C for 14–18 minutes until golden and crispy.
During the final 5 minutes, add the sliced pepper, onion, garlic, chilli, and spring onions to the basket.
Cook until softened slightly with dark caramelised edges beginning to form.
Transfer the fries into a large serving tray.
Pile over the crispy chicken.
Scatter over the cooked vegetables.
Sprinkle generously with the remaining salt and pepper seasoning.
Toss everything together lightly so every chip picks up some of the seasoning.
Serve immediately while everything is still hot and aggressively crunchy.
