Air-Fryer Spanish Torrijas Honey Toasts

Air-fryer spanish torrijas honey toasts from Sweet Munch, built for hot pastry, molten centres, sticky sugar and proper dessert chaos.

This is what happens when French toast takes a holiday to Spain and refuses to come back. Soft bread. Cinnamon. Orange. Honey. Golden crispy edges.

Air-Fryer Spanish Torrijas Honey Toasts preparation stage

You’ll Need

4 thick slices brioche or white bread
200ml whole milk
1 egg
1 tbsp honey
Zest of 1 orange
1 tsp ground cinnamon
25g butter, melted
For The Finish
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp caster sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
Optional But Dangerous
Vanilla ice cream
Orange segments
Caramel sauce

Method

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C.

In a bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, honey, orange zest, and cinnamon.

Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.

Brush both sides lightly with melted butter.

Place the slices into the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Air fry at 180°C for 6–8 minutes, carefully turning halfway through, until golden and lightly crisp around the

edges.

Mix together the caster sugar and cinnamon.

As soon as the torrijas come out of the fryer, drizzle with honey and sprinkle over the cinnamon sugar.

Serve immediately while still warm.

Lad Tip: Torrijas should be soft in the middle and slightly crisp outside. If you've cooked them until they're completely dry, you've made toast. If they're golden, sticky, and trying to fall apart slightly when you pick them up, you've made Spain proud.
