Air-Fryer Steak & Mushroom Pub Gravy Pots preparation stage

You’ll Need

500g beef steak, cut into bite-sized chunks
250g chestnut mushrooms, sliced
1 large onion, sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
20g butter
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder

Pub Gravy
1 tbsp plain flour
400ml beef stock
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp wholegrain mustard

Optional but Dangerous
Mashed potato
Crusty bread
Extra gravy
Horseradish sauce

Method

Preheat your air fryer to 190°C.

Add the onion, mushrooms, butter, and olive oil to a foil tray or heatproof dish.

Air fry for 8–10 minutes, stirring halfway, until softened and lightly caramelised.

Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

Gradually pour in the beef stock.

Add the Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Stir thoroughly.

Add the beef chunks and coat them in the gravy mixture.

Return to the air fryer and cook at 190°C for 12–15 minutes, stirring halfway.

Continue cooking until the beef is tender and the gravy has thickened into a rich glossy sauce.

Allow to rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Finish with extra black pepper if desired.

Serve with mashed potato, crusty bread, or both if you're making sensible life choices.

Lad Tip: Good pub gravy should cling to the beef, not run away from it. If the sauce is thin enough to drink through a straw, keep cooking it. Gravy is supposed to be rich enough to require commitment.
